General description |
Overview of Challenge |
||||
5 |
What is the nature of the challenge? (What is not adequately addressed at present?) |
In remote parts of East and Central Africa, for example, communication can be unreliable. When we have lost communications we would like to know whether this loss in communication is down to an incident at the site, or is harmless technical problem. When incidents occur on remote sites it is often difficult for HQ to understand the nature of the situation. |

Nature of the challenge - What effect does this challenge have on operations? |
There is a risk to personnel and a knock-on cost implication if we can't manage incidents effectively. As an example, we had an incident in South Sudan where a medic went missing. We lost comms and it was difficult to understand the situation on the gro |

What do you currently do to address this challenge?/ How is this challenge conventionally addressed? |
Use of back-up communications systems, but these require an individual to be available to give situation reports. |
