What are your actual limitations and do you have a work around? 

  • The main issue with the use of EO products is the poor knowledge about their performance and reliability. Validation and communication ESA/industry around these data are paramount.

 

  • The limitation concerning the use of EO products can be the difficulty to have a guaranteed access to these data. (A model is more likely to provide this guarantee) Ex: This issue happens with EnviSAT. It delivered excellent products but there were many difficulties in getting the data timeliness in NRT.

 

  • Another issue is the lack of tools to read and view this data. The products should be provided in a common format to producers (Matlab, Fortran) or delivered with a turnkey tool.

 

  • Problem of having a time series referred to a specific location. Satellite data are sparse in both time and space

Needs and expectations on EO data

Workshops with ESA to communicate on these tools (validation case studies) and the reliability of these products could be very useful.

A new analyze of the climate change with the EO data could also be of a great help.

CRYOSAT Data are really needed for operational issues. Communication about these products needs to be done.

There is also a need to communicate more upstream with the science community
