The Earth Observation Best Practice for the mining of Raw Materials (EO4RM) project brings together experts from both the Mining and the Earth Observation sector to identify key challenges of the mining sector and suitable solutions drawing from modern and future Earth Observation capabilities.
In the end, the analysis shall
- Identify and consolidate key information requirements from the mining sector
- Identify relevant EO-based products and services
- Provide a roadmap for uptake of valuable EO services and products in the mining industry
The consortium of key experts from both industries implement multiple surveys, workshops and user meetings to elaborate a best practice roadmap and guidelines for the use of EO data in the mining sector.
The following four lifecycle stages of mining are considered when performing these analyses:
- Exploration
- Environmental Assessment & Permitting
- Design, Construction & Operations
- Mine Closure & Aftercare
