The key value for the industry: The main objective of EO4GEO is to help to bridge the skills gap between supply and demand of education and training in the EO/GI sector by reinforcing the existing ecosystem and fostering the uptake and integration of space/geospatial data and services in end-user applications. EO4GEO aims to help the sector find workers with the right skills and ensuring that they acquire the competences they need to find jobs. This is key to sector economic innovation, growth and competitiveness. Demand for professional skills can be identified and stimulated, both supporting the drivers of and removing the barriers to long-term sustainable skills strategy. It will also provide clarification on skills, competences, duties, knowledge on the recruitment process. The strategy is implemented through several actions: the development and maintenance of an ontology-based Body of Knowledge (BoK) for the sector; the design and development of a series of curricula and a rich portfolio of training modules directly usable in the context of Copernicus and the organisation of a series of training actions for a selected set of scenarios in three sub-sectors - integrated applications, smart cities and climate change to test and validate the approach.
The next milestone: Sector Skills Strategy deliverable (April 2019). The deliverable is planned to be discussed with DG-GROW and DG-EMPL
The needs of the sector are constantly evolving, and we believe that helping the industry to find workers with the right skills and ensuring that they acquire the skills they need to find productive employment is key to the sector economic innovation, growth and competitiveness, therefore EO4GEO aims to define a long-term and sustainable strategy to fill the gap between supply of and demand for the EO/GI education and training. - The Skills Intelligence will provide a comprehensive and user friendly information, data, facts, analysis and interpretation about the past, present or future skill needs in the (G)EO sector.
