The potential impact from a mine can be over a very wide area with respect to environmental emissions.  Monitoring must look at dispersion of discharges in the atmosphere and within water bodies and groundwater.   

The frequency required for monitoring will be site specific and will depend on sensitivities specific to each site.  It would be expected that a mine will have monitoring data that is on a daily basis for many parameters.

Environmental monitoring will also include the measuring of biological components (flora and fauna) to demonstrate that biodiversity and species numbers are in line with the numbers reported in preplanning reports.
